Hawk Rock Talk: Classic Albums: “Strangers In The Night” by UFO

UFO should have been huge. Jason Gore and Geoff “The Angry Man” Garlock present an entire live album’s worth of evidence.

On this edition of Hawk Rock Talk: Classic Albums, the guys dig into UFO’s classic live album, “Strangers in the Night,” a record packed with Michael Schenker’s melodic guitar work, Phil Mogg’s killer vocals, everything brilliant that was Pete Way, and songs that should have been permanent fixtures on classic rock radio. “Doctor Doctor,” “Rock Bottom”: come on, people.

Along the way: the greatest live-album debate, the gamble of Hipgnosis album covers, the studio work behind supposedly live records in the seventies, UFO’s Spinal Tap connection, and Jason’s proposal to replace the podcast with a Strangers in the Night tribute band. Geoff anticipates overwhelming enthusiasm from their wives.

Hawk Rock Talk is the rock music companion podcast to 108.9 The Hawk, the comedy podcast about a fictional classic rock radio station.
